Assignment 3 | Lesson Plan 1

Context:
The students should have already completed:
  • SWA3
  • SWA4
Students will be moving into the final part of this sequence where they will have to draft a resume.

The students should have already read:
  • Technical Communication Today: Chapter 5 - Starting Your Career

Incoming Homework:
  • Students have just completed their SWA4 and reflection

In Class:
Free Write
  • List as many skills, jobs, or experience that you think would be relevant to put on a resume as you can.

In Class Reading/ Group Work:
  • In pairs, look on the internet for resumes. This can be a quick google search, or you can visit a resume building website (although I don't recommend using one). Find one that your group thinks is interesting and email it to me.
  • After all the students have emailed their examples of good resumes, open them up and compare them with the class.
  • Write on the board the conventions of the resumes that are good and that they have in common.
  • Discuss the conventions of a resume.

For Next Class:
Students should write in their journals:
  • Write down everywhere you've worked, including the dates, locations, and duties.
  • If you haven't had a job, consider some other things you've done like:
    • Volunteer
    • Education
    • Awards or Scholorships
